Mr. Jump: Mario Would Be Proud

March 11th, 2015  |  By Marilyn Shi

Mr. Jump is a new iPhone app that presents a throw-back to the glory days of Mario and Luigi. Though there are no gold coins to snatch or mushrooms to bop, it is just as exciting and engaging. The game features a little man with a block for a head that jumps from platform to platform. The rules are simple, but the game is not so easy. The levels get trickier with floating shapes and dangerous traps, making it easier for the little guy to fall and start over.

It's a simple, side-scrolling platform game with 8-bit tunes and colorful graphics. The length of the jumps can be controlled by holding down on the screen. In a way, it reminds me of Flappy Bird, but with more nuances to each level. With strategic moves and fast reflexes, the player must take advantage of the platforms to hoist onto higher or lower ones, or to grab hold of a floating shape nearby.

There are no useless distractions. The game is so simple that it can’t get old. Just like Flappy Bird was a phenomenon with its ease of use and repetitive nature, this game is projected to have great success in the coming future.

Mr. Jump will be released for free download on March 16th, 2015 in the iOS App Store. Have fun beta testing it, here
