Game Apps Taking the Social Media World by Storm



With all the notifications floating around our Facebook News Feeds, it’s hard not to see the pleas for help from our friends to help them get to the next level in whatever game they’re currently invested in. How many times have you been asked to create a Candy Crush account just so your friend could take all your lives? The amount of games played through social media is growing in popularity and more people make in game purchases than you would think.

According to, 40 percent of people have made in-game purchases while playing a Facebook game. In addition to that, more than half of Facebook users play more than 3 Facebook games a week. Even though people are spending money on these game, there has been a shift from more traditional computer and video games to social media games, which are, more often than not, free to begin.

App developers are making it easier for people to play their games by making them free to download and adding the social media component. These in-game purchases, for example more lives in Candy Crush, aren’t entirely necessary, but they are a way to play with your friends without spending too much money on other games, and a way for developers to make money so they can continue to update and create new and more exciting games.
