App developers can now build Chromecast support right into their apps and websites by downloading the new Google Cast Software Development Kit.
After paying a five dollar registration fee, developers can have access to the Google Cast SDK console so they can register their apps and authorize devices for testing. In addition, developers can now create apps which support standard streaming protocols like HLS, and Microsoft Smooth Streaming.
This move opens up Chromecast to a whole range of new applications. Before only user favorites like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Youtube, Pandora and few others were available.
App developers can visit github.com/googlecast to view sample apps that will be used on Chromecast. Developers can learn how to download and enable an app on Chromecast by visiting: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/developers
