New iPhone Game App Mixes Nostalgia With Today’s Music

January 20th, 2014  |  By Briana Gomes

Remember the good ol’ days of 8-bit Nintendo and polyphonic ringtones? Pixel Pop Songs take you back a time before the perfected mp3 audio file with today’s hits!

Due to be released May 1, Pixel Pop Songs takes today’s pop songs and remixes them into 8-bits and leaves it up to you to recognize the familiar tune. Watch the app demo video below to get a taste of pop smashes like Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe” sounds like in 8-bit.

What separates this app from the other new game apps out there is that nostalgic flavor. There are so many games and trivia apps where you have to identify a song or artist from a short clip, but what makes Pixel Pop Songs more interesting (and challenging!) is that all the songs have been remixed into 8-bit. It’s Name That Tune meets the ‘90s meets today’s hits!

Another cool aspect of the game is if you have a song on the tip of your tongue but cannot remember what it’s called, don’t fret! You can ask your friends to join the fun and help vie Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

If you love taking a stroll down memory lane and music, be sure to get this app when it’s released!
